The main architect of the Bat’a shoe corporation in Zlín, František L. Gahura, built two noteworthy works in Slovakia: a villa in Trenčín and the small regional headquarters of the Czechoslovak Red Cross in Nitra. The Functionalist motif of the glass-fronted semicircular staircase, though common elsewhere, is rare in Slovak architecture; here it is also matched with the unusual protruding glass entrance corner.
