The large increase in housing construction in Bratislava during the First Czechoslovak Republic, together with the availability of limestone, clay and good connections to the railway, predestined Stupava for the construction of a modern cement plant. The initiators were Handlovské uhoľné bane, účastinná spoločnosť (the Handlová coal mines, participating company), and the Czech insurance company Union. The technological design of the plant was developed by the German firm Fellner & Ziegler. The project documentation was prepared by the Bratislava branch of Pittel+Brausewetter under the direction of Karl Leubner. The second builder was their direct competitor from Austria, the Eduard Ast & Co. construction company. The construction of the factory started in August 1929 and a test run took place as early as April 1930. The cement factory had a very impressive and simple industrial architecture. Apart from the chimney, the site was dominated by the main building of the production line, which consisted of a reinforced concrete frame with a brick infill and large partitioned glazed windows. The 187 m long and 31.5 m wide building was dominated by a clinker hall, which was not sealed from the sides and thus formed an impressive colonnade with a steel gable roof. The cement works also included a Pohling system cableway, which transported the clay from the nearby clay quarry and limestone, initially from the Pod Pajštúnom quarry and from the 1940s onwards from the Prepadlé quarry, 10 km away. The biggest reconstruction took place in the 1950s, when a second production line and several operational buildings were built. From the original buildings, the transformer station building from the 1930s and the administrative and social building from the 1950s have been preserved completely. However, most of the production buildings have given way to residential construction, and the cement works thus disappeared.
