The shopping center in Moravany nad Váhom is one of the most striking examples of late modernist civic amenities in rural Slovakia. The team of architects from Stavoprojekt in Trnava designed a complex which, despite being built under the "Akcia Z" system, significantly exceeds the standards of its time in terms of architectural quality and urban planning, representing an effort to create a solution that is individual and different from the usual standard designs for rural or housing estate shopping centers. The building is designed as a horizontal, single-storey structure that respects the configuration of the terrain and the panoramic views of the Váh valley. The authors took advantage of the elevated position above the main Piešťany – Trenčín transport axis to create a modern landmark that does not appear invasive. A striking feature is the plasticity of the facades and the dynamic alternation of solid masses with glazed surfaces, which reflect the internal operational logic. The volume of the building, in direct contact with the historic buildings and the landscape, is visually corrected by sloping roof planes and attics.
The layout is strictly functional, yet generous; under a common roof, it integrates a wide range of services, including a post office, health center, grocery stores, milk, meat, vegetables, and small goods, as well as an espresso bar with a terrace offering a view. The authors emphasized the creation of a natural local center, where the floor plan creates natural gathering spaces, atriums, and terraces complemented by greenery. The value of the building lies in its refined dialogue with the historic buildings and its ability to bring high social and aesthetic value to utilitarian operations.
