The hospital, located on the northwestern outskirts of the city, was built on the site of General Svoboda’s former field hospital. Its architectural and urban design was thus influenced by the layout of the existing buildings, the need to interconnect the individual functional units, and consideration of the city’s overall urban and landscape character. The architects therefore designed the hospital as a simple and distinctive horizontal monoblock. Perpendicular to the long, longitudinal volume of the inpatient wing is a four-story volume housing shared diagnostic facilities, featuring a projecting entrance area. A three-story outpatient clinic building is set forward in front of this complex. This terraced composition creates an elegant silhouette in the city’s skyline, while also leaving room for potential future expansion. The architectural expression of the building is further enhanced by the continuous balconies along the main facades and the horizontal bands between the windows. From a structural standpoint, the building consists of a precast reinforced concrete frame with a longitudinal module of 7.2 m. In the transverse direction, the modules range from 6 m to 7.2 m to 8.4 m. The floors are constructed of Spiroll prestressed floor panels, and the exterior envelope is clad with aerated concrete panels.
