The residential district of 2,300 flats was developed on the territory of a peripheral district of family houses. The original structure was replaced with a modern loose structure, with the main axis formed by Štúrova street conceived as a city boulevard. Dwelling houses arranged perpendicularly to the street are coupled with shops, services and offices. There are two types of houses mostly used- a tower with concavely curved roof of a superstructure and then a longitudinal sectional block. The housing estate has not been completed to its planned extent. As an extraordinary solution should be considered the transformation of the natural environment of the so-called Rolfes mine to an urban park with greenery and small architecture. The urban design and the architectural expression of the houses place the housing estate among the best examples of the modern housing estates built after World War II.
