Outside the city railway station, a seasonal swimming facility with two pools has been built in the mid-thirties, one pool being for swimmers and the other, recessed one for non-swimmers. It had a partially covered grandstand which enclosed the dressing rooms. Pools were placed at different elevations and so the grandstand was more of just a simple colonnade. Despite limited financial resources, the swimming pool was finished in the best standards available, including its reinforced concrete structure, its equipment and sanitation. For the city of Kosice which has widely embraced the Art Nouveau movement, this pool represents a unique example of functionalist architecture. Its distinctive attributes such as a smooth white facade, strip and circular windows, or constructivist details have been advertising functionalism, which was not exactly popular at the time among the locals. Architect Ludovit Oelschlaeger is an important representative of the local architecture. The swimming pool is his best functionalist achievement.
