Thanks to its unusual urban design, the Medzi jarkami residential complex ranks among the most daring projects of its kind. It was designed by a team from Center 50 at the Institute of Studies, Design, and Standardization in Bratislava, located on the southeastern outskirts of Bratislava in the area of the former riverbeds of the Little Danube. The urban concept is based on grouping eight-story apartment buildings, predominantly of the ZT and ZTB-2 types, into open, interlocking octagons of varying radii. They surround internal spaces with recreational areas and playgrounds featuring distinctive landscaping and artistic elements, on which the architects collaborated with sculptor Juraj Hovorka. Amenities are concentrated along the road running through the housing estate. From an architectural standpoint, the atypical dormitory building is noteworthy; it was designed with a floor plan in the shape of an unfolded pentagon and contains 450 apartments. This form also gave the building its name, the Pentagon. The residential complex comprises a total of 1,570 apartments.
