The structured volume of the spa building stands on the edge of the spa park and confidently blends into the surroundings of the small spa town. The Veľká Fatra Spa House is the first building constructed based on the 1969 urban study for the development of Turčianske Teplice, prepared by architect Jaroslav Vítek. The study envisaged the expansion of the spa complex eastward from the spa park in the form of three institutions. The expressive form of the Veľká Fatra Spa House is created by the layered horizontals of its individual floors. The distinctive shaping of the monoblock’s mass clearly reflects the building’s functional layout. The spacious two-story base, featuring prominent entrance ramps, houses the social and therapeutic areas. Rising from this base is a smaller volume comprising three residential floors that recede in a cascading pattern. The layout thus provides clear orientation within the individual facilities and maximum contact with the exterior. The facades feature two types of glass and white concrete panels, which contrast with the stone cladding surfaces. The original interiors, including numerous works of art by renowned artists, possessed the same architectural and artistic value. The spa building is a characteristic example of the large therapeutic complexes of the late 1970s. In 1986, this work was awarded the Klement Gottwald State Prize.
